Year-Round Veg – important news for 2014

Categories Uncategorized

Dear FLF Member, advice

2013 has been a great year for us and for our vegetables! New members, more sunshine and loads of great tasting vegetables that we trust you all enjoyed.

We are now eagerly looking ahead to 2014 and making preparations for another good year. To help Susie in the field and enable FLF to stay sustainable we have decided it is necessary to take on more paid help so we are delighted to be able to welcome Gavin to FLF. We are a host farm for Gavin whilst he undertakes a Soil Association apprenticeship, training to become an organic grower. To be able to pay his small salary we need to sell more vegetables.

Following your support at our AGM and subsequent discussions by the Board, we will now be supplying veg all year round. If, as expected, we cannot grow enough crops ourselves, we will buy in from suppliers who match our twin principles of being “As Organic as Possible” and “As Local as Possible,” keeping your share size stable.

The new FLF year 2014 will start on 4 January and run right through to 20 December.

What does Year-Round Veg mean for Me?

Year-round veg requires a few changes to the pricing structure following a price freeze for the last two years:

  • As before, you can simply pay the new amount by monthly standing order or BACS and continue until further notice.
  • If you wish to change your share size, please tell us first and then alter your payment.
  • If you no longer want to take a share, please give us a minimum of one month’s notice.

The new pricing structure will be effective from 4 January 2014:

Small £7.50 per week; Standard £11.50; Family £15.50

For those paying six months in advance there will be a discount of one week’s share. And for those very enthusiastic people wanting to pay a year in advance there will be a discount of two weeks worth of shares. Official figures from our Treasurer, Tony:

Share Size

Weekly £

Monthly £

6 Months in advance £

Full Year in advance £

Discounts for our Volunteers: 50% off the above prices for 3 hours per week; Free veg for 6 hours.

What Should I do Next?

Given the overwhelming votes in favour of year-round veg at the AGM we hope you will continue taking a share. To help us transition into the new Year-Round FLF please let us know if you do not wish to continue with FLF from January. E-mail us soon if you want to opt out.

Thank you for all your help and support and here’s to another year of plenty!

  1. Hi,

I’ve been to the first group volunteer marketing meeting and I’m considering joining, volunteering and purchasing a share but I’m a little confused by the volunteer discount.

Because members pay up front for their share, can you explain how the volunteer discount is applied?

    1. Hello Nicci,
Just because you’re a volunteer doesn’t mean you have to pay for 6 months or a year in advance; it’s fine to pay monthly by standing order.
To join the discount scheme please talk to Kerstin. 3-hr and 6-hr discounts are only for gardening volunteering, not back-office jobs (such as writing this reply) and are subject to availability. If accepted, you could simply pay half the usual amount each month, for example. I’m on the 3-hr scheme so paid £140.88 for 6 months in advance – half the listed £281.75 for a Standard Share.
      I hope this helps.
